Welcome to DinnerBoss 👊
DinnerBoss is a weekly dinner planner designed for families who value predictability and routine at mealtimes. Plan your adult dinners, get smart suggestions for children's meals that share ingredients, build your shopping list automatically, and track your meal history over time.
Getting started
🗓 Planning your week — step by step
Add your recipes first
Head to the Recipes page and add the meals your family loves. You can add them manually, import from a recipe website URL, or paste in text from a recipe page.
Pick adult dinners for each day
On the Planner page, use the dropdown on each day card to choose an adult dinner. You can also mark a day as Takeaway 🛵 or Eating out 🍽 using the buttons at the bottom of each card.
Choose children's meals
Once an adult meal is selected, a button appears to choose a kids meal. DinnerBoss automatically suggests children's meals that share ingredients with the adult dinner — for example, if you're having a curry, it will suggest rice-based kids meals.
Pick accompaniments
Below each meal selection you'll see quick-pick accompaniment buttons (rice, pasta, chips, etc.) for both the adult and children's meal. Tap to select — tap again to deselect.
Check your shopping list
The Shopping list page automatically compiles all ingredients from your planned meals, grouped by category. Tick items off as you shop, or copy the full list to paste into a message or notes app.
Archive the week when done
At the end of the week, go to History and tap Archive this week. This saves the week to your history and clears the planner for next week.
Key features
Importing recipes from a website
In the Recipes page, click Add recipe and use the From URL tab. Paste in a recipe website link and DinnerBoss will fetch and parse the recipe automatically.
Children's meal suggestions
The suggestion system matches kids meals to adult meals using ingredient groups — broad categories like "rice", "pasta", or "chicken" that you define when adding a recipe. The more accurate your groups, the smarter the suggestions.
Shopping list categories
Ingredients are automatically sorted into categories (Meat, Dairy, Vegetables, Pantry, etc.). If something lands in the wrong category, hover over it and click the pencil icon to move it. Your choice is remembered permanently.
Meal history & tracking
The History page shows every archived week with a breakdown of home-cooked vs takeaway vs eating out nights. Over time this gives you a useful picture of your family's dinner patterns.
Settings
In Settings you can change your week start day, manage your accompaniments list, add custom ingredient categories, manage unit descriptors, and use the built-in measurement converter.
Your data is safe
Everything syncs automatically to the cloud whenever you make a change. You can also use Export data in the sidebar to download a backup file at any time, and Import data to restore it.
Frequently asked questions
Choose which day your week starts on. The planner will reorder accordingly.
These appear as quick-pick options on each day card for both adult and children's meals.
These words are recognised as units of measurement when parsing ingredients, so they don't appear as part of the ingredient name. For example, rashers means "6 rashers bacon" correctly shows as bacon · 6 rashers.
Changes apply immediately to newly added or edited recipes. Existing saved ingredients are not re-parsed.
Quickly convert between metric and imperial measurements while cooking or adding recipes.
